![]() Remastered has left gameplay entirely untouched. That means more moments of disgust as you look at the Zerg with fresh eyes, new moments of immersive gameplay as you command terran units, new moments of wondering if the Protoss are wearing anything under that armor… Hydras have arms?Īnyone getting Starcraft: Remastered will see the updated unit portraits and newer, more accurate art of these space warriors. I was reminded of that when I finally got started in Starcraft: Remastered, because a lot of my time playing it has been just clicking on units and realizing what they were meant to look like. With their blocky nature or hazy portraits, it left a certain amount open to your own interpretation. The graphics were great then, but still restricted by the technology of the day. I hear graphics capabilities have advanced since the release of Starcraft in 1998. Starcraft: Remastered is only a graphics update, but those graphics are very important. The graphics expressed all of this, the underlying themes of the game, and showed you how it was all your world to play in. When you played Protoss, you saw high-tech robotics, mystical warriors, and sometimes inexplicable phenomena unfold at your command. When you played Zerg, you saw freaky metamorphoses, organic behemoths, and alien mutations unfold before your eyes. When you played Terran, you saw drilling, tanks, marines, and good old human ingenuity. Every bit of the game reminded you of the gritty, technological space drama you were playing through. The mission briefing would tell you that you have to command some ramshackle units and construct a base, but then you’d actually get to see it happen. You could skip the story, but you couldn’t skip the environment. The differences between the fantasy world of Warcraft and the technological world of Starcraft were immediately apparent. When Starcraft came out, it was radically different from Warcraft 2, and not just because of the story. Now of course Starcraft is primarily about the strategy. As his virtual town burned around him, he said, “I don’t really have time to look at the pretty faces.” I just wanted to see what this guy looked like in purple. I wanted him to click on this unit or that unit, to bring up the unit’s portrait and see what they look like in the different color palettes. The impossible odds he was facing meant every color faction was present in the game. ![]() I’m sure it was going great, but I was more fascinated by the colors. He was fighting off some horde of enemies, the lone human player against six or seven orc factions. One of my earliest memories of gaming was looking over my brother’s shoulder while he played Warcraft 2. Just look at the featured image up top if you don’t believe me. Blizzard released Starcraft: Remastered on Monday, with improved HD graphics, improved audio, a few new menu options, and most importantly, lots of pretty faces. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now that would be the best of both worlds. I think it would be fascinating (captain) to see how the two games grow and inform one another over the years. I don't mark games on what they could be, but I certainly hope that Infinite gets the same kind of post release support as its bigger brother. I really do want to try that reunification story arc, I want to see if I can evacuate the Romulans before their sun explodes this time (sorry guys), I want to actually get the Enterprise E before Jean Luc Picard dies of old age. ![]() Nevertheless at the end of every review I ask myself "do I still want to play this game some more, now that I'm not being paid?" and the answer here is yes. In the end I stopped playing well before the victory conditions, but that's also frequently true of Stellaris, a game I've played for hundreds of hours. There's also a disappointing lack of interactions with pre-FTL civilisations, a Prime Directive dilemma or two would've been nice. I don't mind that Nimble Giant haven't really changed the planet building interface, but I feel like I probably shouldn't be trading energy credits for alloys as the famously post capitalist Federation. It's things like this, and the more direct ports from Stellaris, that make Infinite feel a little unfinished. Although to be fair that last one also happened in the show. Like a decidedly un-silent notification for a "silent alarm", or the strange bug that caused the voiceover to claim a character had died every five minutes, or the time I ended up with two Rikers. ![]() Something Infinite should have over any mod is polish, and while it does feel less clunky than New Horizons, there are still more issues than there should be at launch. It's also, paradoxically, the cheaper option if you don't already own a full deck of Stellaris DLC. This means, for example, that the Borg are more akin to the terrifying invader from nowhere they are in the show, rather than another player faction. Stellaris already has a Star Trek mod, so why should you pay for a game when a mod is free? Well Stellaris's New Horizons mod is a sprawling epic that covers the entirety of Star Trek history and every faction in the galaxy, while Infinite is focused on the Alpha and Beta quadrants of the Next Generation era, and frankly I think it's better for it. We’re going to go through some of the major features of this new update so that you can hop in and start playing on day one You can read the full patch notes on the Stellaris forums Free Improvements. Multiple individuals have staked a claim to having invented the USB flash drive. Flash memory uses floating-gate MOSFET transistors as memory cells. The basis for USB flash drives is flash memory, a type of floating-gate semiconductor memory invented by Fujio Masuoka in the early 1980s. Some devices combine the functionality of a portable media player with USB flash storage they require a battery only when used to play music on the go. Some are equipped with an I/O indication LED that lights up or blinks upon access. ![]() USB drives with USB 2.0 support can store more data and transfer faster than much larger optical disc drives like CD-RW or DVD-RW drives and can be read by many other systems such as the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, DVD players, automobile entertainment systems, and in a number of handheld devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, though the electronically similar SD card is better suited for those devices, due to their standardized form factor, which allows the card to be housed inside a device without protruding.Ī flash drive consists of a small printed circuit board carrying the circuit elements and a USB connector, insulated electrically and protected inside a plastic, metal, or rubberized case, which can be carried in a pocket or on a key chain, for example. USB flash drives use the USB mass storage device class standard, supported natively by modern operating systems such as Windows, Linux, macOS and other Unix-like systems, as well as many BIOS boot ROMs. Until about 2005, most desktop and laptop computers were supplied with floppy disk drives in addition to USB ports, but floppy disk drives became obsolete after widespread adoption of USB ports and the larger USB drive capacity compared to the "1.44 megabyte" (1440 kilobyte) 3.5-inch floppy disk. The ability to retain data is affected by the controller's firmware, internal data redundancy, and error correction algorithms. However, as with any flash storage, data loss from bit leaking due to prolonged lack of electrical power and the possibility of spontaneous controller failure due to poor manufacturing could make it unsuitable for long-term archiving of data. Additionally, they are less vulnerable to electromagnetic interference than floppy disks, and are unharmed by surface scratches (unlike CDs). Compared with floppy disks or CDs, they are smaller, faster, have significantly more capacity, and are more durable due to a lack of moving parts. Some allow up to 100,000 write/erase cycles, depending on the exact type of memory chip used, and are thought to physically last between 10 and 100 years under normal circumstances ( shelf storage time ).Ĭommon uses of USB flash drives are for storage, supplementary back-ups, and transferring of computer files. As of 2023, 2 TB flash drives were the largest currently in production. Since first offered for sale in late 2000, the storage capacities of USB drives range from 8 to 256 gigabytes (GB ), 512 GB and 1 terabyte (TB ). ![]() ![]() For most mental health disorders like depression, talk therapy is the starting point. Most of Aetna’s covered treatments are divided into three categories. What Sorts of Treatment Will Aetna Cover? This will be where you meet with your primary care physician and get them to refer you to a mental health specialist. For most mental health coverage, the first type of approval you need is a referral. There are a few different treatment approval methods used by Aetna. If you want Aetna to assist you with coverage, you may need to get their approval first. Keep in mind that Aetna usually does not allow its members to just get whatever medical care they want and then request reimbursement afterward. How to Get Aetna to Approve Your Treatments They have an online cost estimator tool that lets you know how much coverage your plan gives for various treatments. To find out the exact cost of treatment, you should login to your Aetna account. Since costs vary so much depending on what plan you have, it is important to go over your plan carefully. Furthermore, Aetna has special deals with many healthcare providers, so your out-of-pocket costs per visit is still less than an uninsured person would pay. In these cases, the costs still go towards meeting your deductible, and Aetna will cover costs after your deductible is reached. Keep in mind that some Aetna plans may not have a copay or coinsurance for mental health care. Once all of your healthcare costs for the year reach the deductible amount, Aetna will cover the rest of your care. Typically, you have to pay at least some of the cost for mental health care until you reach the deductible for your plan. Coinsurance is similar, but instead of being a specific dollar amount, it is a specific percentage. A copay is a set amount of money you pay for each doctor’s visit or prescription medication. Some people have a plan with copays or coinsurance. The precise amount of coverage you get will depend on your Aetna plan. Understanding How Much Your Aetna Plan Will Pay For This means insurance for mental health treatment can cost slightly more than a general checkup visit, but you still get some assistance with the costs. Under most Aetna plans, mental and behavioral health treatment is defined as a type of specialist treatment. As long as your treatment is in-network, Aetna will cover it. Your insurance company cannot deny you coverage because you have a mental health condition, and they cannot refuse to cover care for any diagnosed condition. Legally speaking, mental health conditions are treated just like any other condition. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Aetna and other health insurance companies are legally required to cover care for mental health conditions like depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Regardless of what plan you have with Aetna, they will cover some or all of your costs associated with mental health care.
